Since the original Wiki CMS pasge seems to be broken, I’ve put this up in it’s place so we can organize and continue the discussion.
A number of the ACGNJ Board has been requested to look into the process and issues around implementing a Wiki or CMS for the club’s Web site. An issue that seems hard to control is the scrurity vs. availability of Membership and Event Attendance information and database etc. We need a secure server and one that all the Board can have access to at all times. Before we decide between a CMS or a wiki, what problem is it we’re trying to solve? It’s not a problem other than the lack of having an on-line DB for Membership and Attendance, but several members feel a site with Member / Board logon with pages for Forums and Chats would be desireable. That’s two separate things: an online MembershipDatabase, and a “real” website. They’re both sufficiently complicated on their own without trying to combine them. Do one first, then the other. Evan Williams and Manny Goyenechea are both working on a MembershipDatabase. When would it be convenient for all of us to get together and talk about this. I’ll be at the club Fri. evening.

AndyMeyer has indicated that such a database might be put on the club’s server once it is upgraded, but the access and controlling applications must be proven to be secure. The Event Attendance tables should be updated by the respective SIG Chair during or SHORTLY after the event. The Membership tables should be updated by the Membership chairperson. All stored data should be perusal and reports by all Board members. Selective data should be available for Members and some sub-set should be available for casual surfers.
